Who runs YSA Melbourne?

We’re governed by a fifteen-member Executive Committee aged from 15 to 25, who are elected at our AGM each July. Each committee member is a student or young professional who gladly volunteers their time to organize events, administer our finances, manage our membership, or maintain this website, as well as engaging with the members and the wider community.

We are always happy to answer questions, listen to ideas, and are always looking for enthusiastic people to get involved and help out, so please do not hesitate to contact us.

Hi Guys! I’m James, your new president. I’m an engineering and science student, and when I’m not in a lab, I’m usually running around teaching at uni, or working on outreach programs.

I’m looking forward to working with everyone both inside and outside the committee to make this year a great one for YSA. We have a lot of great people, and a lot of great ideas, so whether you want to help or just want to chat, feel free to message me at president@melbourne.ysa.org.au or come chat to me at a social!

Hey guys, it’s Mel here, and in addition to being a conscripted year 12 student, I am also your secretary this term. Biomed is my life but in my free time, I love science outreach, listening to music, and hanging with the squad. I’m looking forward to working with the sick as top 4 and the brand new committee this term to get some awesome stuff done. I’ll see you around at socials, but you can always get to me through secretary@melbourne.ysa.org

Hola! I have the pleasure of being the intrepid Treasurer for 2016-2017. What I do is take care of the monies and work the magic of Microsoft Excel, as well as juggling my Engineering/Science degree at university. If you want to know more about the Treasurer role, engineering, science, or really anything, just shoot me an email at treasurer@melbourne.ysa.org

Social Coordinator: Garth Bradbeer

A’hoy all you wonderful people, Rides in on a Rainbow Unicorn. I am Garth, YSA’s new resident cyborg social Coordinator. I’ve been in YSA a long long time, like way back in 2009 when I was still human, and it’s partially this that spurred my studies in science related fields, and where I currently am, beginning my career in engineering (doing sheet metal origami).

YSA is a wonderful welcoming community and I look forward to a year of bringing everyone a bit closer together, and having lots of fun times, For Science!

When I’m not working or YSAing I’m playing D&D, cooking, reading manga and web comics, watching odd movies and riding dragons and unicorns! Feel free to message me if you have any concerns

Hi, I’m Ricardo and in my 8th committee term I’ll be serving as YSA Melbourne’s Immediate Past President. Outside of YSA, I am completing the final semester of my Robotics degree, and work in mechatronics R&D. If you’d like to chat, you can reach me at ipp@melbourne.ysa.org.au

Hey, guys! I’m Ciara (pronounced Keera, I know, it’s weird) one of your General MWOPs for 2016-2017. I’ve been in YSA for the past 18 months, and I’m super excited for my first term on the Committee! I’m a Year 11 who wishes VCE would conveniently self-combust; but here we are. I’m the kind of weirdo who actually reads entire Wikipedia pages, whether it be on Fluoroantimonic Acid or First US Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton. I’ll be around at socials so if you see me come chat or email me at mwops@melbourne.ysa.org.au.

Michael Beards

MWOP: Michael Beards

Howdy! I’m Michael, sometimes called Keith, and I’m one of your general MWOPs! The beauty of being a general MWOP is that I don’t have any specific purpose with YSA, but I know a little bit about everything (just a little, though). So, if you have an idea for YSA, but no clue who to talk to, come to me and I can help you out!
