YSA Melbourne has enjoyed a long and successful history working with both the Inspiring Australia initiative and Re-Science to collaborate on YSA events such as the Invite a Scientist to Dinner social and the Amazing Race 2010 social, as well as providing our support and staff members to National Science Week events and activities. National Science Week is the nation’s biggest celebration of science and the accomplishments of Australian scientists, researchers, and engineers; and YSA is proud to support this initiative and to be able to help bring science out into the Australian community.
The Inspiring Australia strategy aims to deliver a more scientifically engaged Australia where:
- Australians are inspired by and value scientific endeavour
- Australia attracts increasing national and international interest in its science
- Australians critically engage with key scientific issues
- Young Australians are encouraged to pursue scientific studies and careers.
Re-science.org.au is an initiative of the National Science Week Victorian Coordinating Committee, an Australian Government program supported through the Department of Innovation, Industry, Science, Research and Tertiary Education at Questacon. Events are made accessible to all Victorians, in whatever form that might take – a comedy show, a rock gig, a quiet dinner, a speed-dating event or select activities happening at or available to travel from a great science centre or museum.
